Seats For Two rekindle their love for Spanish dishes one lovely night while dining at Alqueria in SM Megamall. This fine restaurant is situated in a not-so-busy part of Megamall, the Mega Fashion hall to be exact. The moment we stepped inside and walked along its Ital design flooring we forgot we’re inside a mall.
We had a range of the appetizer-size plates so everyone can share and gets to have a variety of flavor.
First, we had a skillet of Salpicao (Php445). Cubes of sautéed imported tenderloin marinated with garlic, Spanish paprika and olive oil. The latter works well with garlic and paprika, making the tenderloin more flavorful and moist.
Don’t be fooled by the less-than-impressive appearance of this Gambas Al Ajillo (Php375) though. The fresh white river shrimps sauteed in olive oil, garlic, red pepper flakes and paprika finished with white wine and butter tastes like heaven. I wiped out the sauce with tostadas and found myself doing it up to the last drop. It was very tasty, I think I can finish the whole thing in one sitting.
I’m a fan of pimiento but not jalapeños. However, when these two mix together in a skillet of creamy cheese, it creates a nice dip with a little spicy kick. It goes well with a glass of margarita or white wine I suppose. Queso Fundido (Php210)
Came next is the well-loved Spanish dish, Paellas. Because I seldom see it on our table, a simple get together becomes special every time we have it. Between the two, I love Paella Valenciana. It has always been a fantastic Spanish treat.
Simmered rice in saffron-infused stock topped with clams, mussels, shrimps amd chicken.
Paella del Carne (Small: Php480 / Medium: Php715 / Large: P1,150)
Simmered rice in saffron-infused stock topped with chorizo, chicken, smoked bacon and pork spareribs.
The region of Castilla is famous for their lamb dishes. Here in Manila, we also had fork-tender Lamb chops and Prime Rib. Between the two, I love the lamb chops. They were served with salad, special dip and traditional potatoes. Lamb and Prime rib are delicious main course anytime of the year.
Prime Rib (Php2,250) 420g black angus USDA choice grade steak
I guess I’m liking ice cream and chocolate even more after getting married. Just like Seats For Two, puding a’la mode would not be complete when the other one is missing – puding or ice cream. In relationship, love is one of the main ingredients. With Alqueria’s churros, I guess it’s Chocolate Valor from Spain.
Manchego is firm Spanish cheese made of sheep’s milk. We recommend Manchego Cheesecake (Php230) with melted manchego cheese and cream cheese. It has the right consistency and texture I wanted in my cheesecake. I just forgot to ask for a cup of coffee.
Alqueria meansfarmhousesoit’s no surprise that they serve tasty Spanish cuisine using fresh ingredients and spices. They’ve got great Spanish offerings like chorizo and paella.
