Celebrate Christmas at Guevarra’s
A not-so-hidden gem in San Juan is already beaming with lights and colorful decors to celebrate the Christmas season! Inside the heritage house-turned-restaurant, Chef Laudico Guevarra‘s buffet table invites us to enjoy the holidays with our families and friends over good Filipino food.
Christmas @ Guevarra’s Restaurant
Guevarra’s is a famous Filipino restaurant in San Juan.
Even our balikbayan friends and families would request to celebrate special occasions and simple get-togethers in this place.
Seats For Two has dined in the restaurant a couple of times in the past two years, with the most recent during our dad’s birthday celebration.
The sprawling yard surrounding the 1920s structure is now decorated with Christmas lights and lanterns. It’s even more beautiful at night!
This year, Chef Laudico added more than 30 Christmas dishes which will be rotated on different days and will be part of the regular buffet of 80 Filipino favorites. With the extensive selection, guests will always find something new even if they come more often.
The Yuletide dishes were revealed during an intimate lunch with no other than Chef Roland Laudico.
We starting the feast with a mouth-watering roasted Turkey with castanas and chorizo stuffing.
This was followed by Mrs Seat For Two‘s personal favorite – the creamy and flavorful Lengua Ala Pobre best with hot steamed rice.
Moving forward, special occasions call for Lechon and Paella! Imagine serving these two in one special dish. The Adobo Lechon Paella is a delicious, overloaded seafood & meat rice dish.
Bringing in further the Christmas spirit is the tender and juicy Pata Hamonado served in a blend of sweet and tangy sauce.
It goes well with hot steamed rice.
The month of December also means a lot of sweet and baked goodies.
Starting every 15th of December, people go to churches for Simbang Gabi to hear mass. Afterwhich, they would enjoy a hot serving of Bibingka and Puto-Bumbong.
Topping-off our delicious meal was a good selection of dessert by Chef Jackie Laudico!
The dessert section features the aforementioned bibingka and crispy Puto Bumbong served with grated coconut and coconut jam (minatamis na bao).
Christmas won’t be complete without a festive serving of Crema de Fruita, a dessert composed of layers of cake and fruits.
Up next is the Pinaono! I’ve never seen one as a soft sponge cake this festive!
Make sure to grab a slice or two. While at it, don’t forget to order a cup of freshly brewed coffee (not included in the buffet).
Belatedly, you can also have a bowl of Beef Pochero Soup and Cream of Lettuce and Chicken Chowder to keep you warm on the cold December month. Both are my personal favorites.
Guevarra’s will be serving Embotido as well since it’s also a Filipino favorite dish during the holiday season. Other dishes you should not miss are: Chicken Ala King, Shrimp in Coconut Brandy Sauce, Steamed Fish Mayonesa, Lechon Kawali in Taro Sinigang Sauce.
There are new vegetable dishes as well, such as the Seafood Chopsuey and Grilled Vegetable Dinengdeng.
For pasta lovers, Guevarra’s is also serving Creamy Carbonara Spaghetti and Baked Macaroni Kaldereta.
