17 Reasons to Visit the Mega Food Fest 2017
The week started with good food for the hungry couple of Seats For Two. This is due to SM Megamall‘s invitation to the Mega Food Fest 2017 which gathered a hefty number of their foodie tenants, 16 to be exact, in one location that is the atrium of the Mega Fashion Hall.
No need to go ‘hangry‘ looking for each of your favorite restaurant and walking around the gigantic SM Megamall. They actually now have a “Building D” the last time I checked the Grab App going to the venue. 🙂
Mega Food Fest 2017
The Mega Food Fest aims to highlight the restaurants’ best-sellers and foodie brands of the Mega Fashion Hall. It is a real food fest as customers and passers-by can get the opportunity to try and taste some of the offerings of the restaurants in sample sizes and affordable cost.
That’s true for all 16 different brands in 1 location. The sample size are also ample for you to have a hint of what else they serve so the next time you visit them, you know what to order!
17 Reasons to Visit the Mega Food Fest 2017
Now, here are 17 reasons why you should check out Mega Food Fest which started yesterday and runs until April 5, 2017.
1) Chelsea’s Mr. Jones Mac ‘n Cheese
The now defunct Mr.Jones restaurant did not entirely disappear as Chelsea brought back to life one of its best selling dish – the Mr. Jones Wicked Truffled Mac ‘n Cheese!
Head on over to Mega Fashion Hal near the stage area and you’ll thank us for the suggestion. 🙂
2) Makansutra
Now owned and operated by a new group different from what you might have first known in Hotel H2O several years ago, Makansutra is back, better and bolder, at the SM Megamall.
They’re currently offering some of their iconic dishes at this fest. We tried the “Braised Chicken with Yam Rice” and for a time, we thought we were in Singapore!
Their sugarcane juice was also a welcome change as I can’t remember the last time I had one
3-4) Grouped Stall of Ippudo / Yabu / Mighty Quinn’s Group
As if one is not enough, the group behind Ippudo, Yabu, and Mighty Quinn’s camped together to offer their best dishes form the East! We sampled Ippudo‘s pork on mantau bread and it’s delightful.
5) Alqueria
We frequent Alqueria at the mall’s 3rd floor so we’re familiar with their menu. What’s great with their stall is that you can order a single serving of Paella Mechado (P130) and Paelle Negra (P130), among others. It’s not frequent you can order single serve sizes of Paella, right? 🙂
Add to that their soft-centered Chorizo Croquettas (P90/3pc) and Truffled Mushroom Croquettas (P90/3pcs) to complete your Espanya experience.
6) Fireside
We haven’t dined in Fireside but we tried their Truffled Potato Crisps and it was heaven. To prove how much we loved it, we got a second order!
Good food doesn’t come cheap though. A generous single serve as in the photo costs P190+ , but it’s worth it.
7) Le Petit Souffle’s Bespoke Workshop Bakery
We frequent Le Petit Souffle in Centruy City but we haven’t been to their SM Megamall branch which just opened towards the end of 2016.
So we were surprised that they have a bakery component called “Bespoke Workshop Bakery” (or something like that). We have to check their Megamall branch soon.
Try to raspberry ice cream and Matcha Cake roll for your sweets cravings.
8) Satchmi
Satchmi mixes good coffee and good music. They’ll give you your coffee fix in this fest. We tried their hot Americano and Iced Caffe Latte and we know they’ll be in this industry for long.
9) Sarsa
We were offered the palabok but the weird sounding “Kalabasa Choco Balls with Pandan Sauce” got our fancy.
Never mind the Pandan sauce, but the crunchy and sweet Kalabasa balls matched with the surprise choco filling at the center is reason enough for you to visit the Mega Food Fest for only P30 a piece.
10) 8 Cuts Burger
One of the good craft burger joints around, 8 Cuts Burger makes the cut! As they say, “only the good stuff“.
We missed their classic cheeseburger and you’ll find it here!
11) Linguini Fini
Back-to-back with 8 Cuts, Linguini Fini will satisfy your pasta needs this side of town. They also offer The Bronx (P99) and Cheese (P60) pizza slices.
12) Lava Cheese Tart
Since Pablo is not in Megamall, you might want to try “Lava“. Touted as Manila’s Best Cheese Tart, I have yet to try their freshly baked tart to be convinced.
13) Sweetea’s by da.u.de
Finally, a non-coffee beverage in the fest. This one’s a good healthy treat as it’s not too sugary.
14) Taco Vengo
Soft taco or not, the beef, lamb, and other options at Taco Vengo will be a treat to taco lovers. We had a good one here as well.
15) Bliss Bowl
This one’s for the health concious! We loved their oats and fruits with Chia seeds! I suddenly craved for some Organique ACAI Berry!
16) Cibo
An old name in the food industry, we think Cibo is coming back to the mainstream with Chef Margarita Fores at the helm.
Try their Italian offerings at their stall beside Chelsea.
17) And Lastly…
Aside from the good food, you get to meet some of the Philippines’ most famous chefs and listen to their talks.
We caught Chef Kalel Chan of Chelsea and Chef JJ Yulo of Makansutra 5pm yesterday!
Don’t worry as more are coming up:
- April 3 – 5pm – Chef JP Angelo of Sarsa Kitchen
- April 4 – 1pm – Chef Joaquin Megallos (Taco Vengo), Chef Miko Aspiras (Le Petit Souffle), and Chef Marharita Fores (Cibo)
- April 5 – 2pm – Chef him Uy de Barron of Makansutra
