Revisiting Tien Ma’s

We’ve been thinking about visiting Taiwan after hearing the great news that Filipinos could enter Taiwan visa-free. Husband visited Taiwan, even stayed there for three months back in 2011. His travel stories going around Tainan and Taipei makes the wifey more excited to visit Taiwan. Since we haven’t taken any steps yet, a quick stop at Tien Ma’s is enough.

The menu has good assortment of dimsum, noodles, seafood and other meaty dishes. We love the dessert selection, while the fruit juices are noticeably affordable. We started with a complimentary kropek or fried prawn-flavored crackers served along with hot tea. The branch in Banawe have WiFi connectivity so were able to get some work done while munching on kropek.

Taiwan Style Beef Noodles and Hakaw

Tender and juicy beef cubes with Taiwan noodles served in a flavorful beef broth with bokchoy. Tien Ma’s beef noodles is just big for the two of us so we decided to have it split into two bowls. This noodle soup was best paired with freshly steamed hakaw and chili sauce on the side.

Seafood Tofu and Honey Lemon Chicken

When it comes to choosing the main course, we always go for something light and healthier such as seafood; dishes that are flavorful with heavy sauces.  The main course comprises of seafood tofu and honey lemon chicken. Serving is good for two-three persons.

Seafood tofu has shrimps, squid, fish, vegetables like carrots, zucchini and mushroom cooked in a very light but flavorful white sauce. The honey lemon chicken was okay. Served with sliced chicken topped with sliced lemon.

Pineapple Fried Rice

We rarely order pineapple fried rice so we thought of getting one. We were it was served in a pineapple husk. We’re glad that the fried rice isn’t too oily and yes, it has pineapple chucks.

We’ve tried almost all the desserts available at Tien Ma’s and one of our favorites is the Salted Egg Custard Bun. The molten lava is the ever popular salted egg.  An order comes with two custard bun. It’s best consumed while hot. We also had pan fried sesame pancake.

For this date, we only spent around Php1,000 for the entire meal.

Taiwan is becoming a favorite travel destinations of many Filipinos. We are not yet sure if we can make it to Taipei this year but we’re glad to have tasted an authentic Taiwanese food in Manila at Tien Ma’s.
