Siklab: Filipino Dishes You Must Try
Siklab means “to ignite” or “to burst”, such as a burst of flavors. When it comes to Filipino cuisine, Siklab by the Bistro Group is one of the best places to dine. It promises ‘hot-off-the-grill’ goodness and must-try Pinoy favorites such as ginataang kuhol and tasty fried chicken.
In November of last year, I treated my mom with a ten days trip in Taiwan, exploring Kaohsiung, Chiayi and Taipei. Aside from sightseeing and shopping, we really enjoyed Taiwanese food. My mom likes the misua and dumplings. But on our 5th day, she’s already looking for some Filipino food, lol! We did not find any so I guess we easily missed our local food. So when we came back, I made sure to have some of my fave local dishes. It was timely that we visited Siklab at their newest branch in Shangri La Plaza mall. The restaurant has a nice modern interior.

I like that they have a wide variety of Filipino dishes to choose from and most of them are not the usual dishes we eat at home. For appetizers, we had baked scallops called Pamana Ng Dagat. It is tasty and melts in your mouth.

For the soup, I ordered sinigang sa bayabas. I’m not really a fan of sinigang sa bayabas but it’s okay to have it once in a while. Anyway, guava fruit is rich in vitamin C and we don’t usually serve sinigang sa bayabas at home. I love their sinigang, it’s not too sour, the meat is tender and has lots of veggies.
We also ordered their sisig, and it was one of the favorites that day. Siklab’s famous Ginataang Kuhol was a hit! For me, the creamy coconut sauce is enough with lots of rice. They also have classic Pinoy favorites like fried chicken and beef caldereta.
Even if we’re already full, we make sure to save space for dessert – bibingka, puto bumbong and palitaw.
