Azalea Residences Baguio: First Look

Our 6-hour travel time from Manila to Baguio City on board Victory Liner bus was all worth it as we arrived at the Philippines’ summer capital. Together with my husband Jonel and niece Bianca, we caught the 4:30pm bus from Cubao and arrived at Azalea Residences Baguio about 11pm.

This trip has taught me a lot of things, one of which is becoming a weekend mother to the pretty little girl. It was also our first time to have a long-distance travel with a kid. Let Seats For Two take you and your family to one of the most famous family destination up north!

One of the key highlights of our Baguio trip is our accommodation – the Azalea Residences Hotel. It was primarily upon their invitation that is why we are here. Azalea Residences is Baguio’s newest all-suite hotel located at Leonard Wood in Baguio City, near Teacher’s Camp and only about 10 minutes away from Victory Liner Baguio Terminal by car or taxi

First Look

The facade of the hotel already commanded a grandiose presence with a country-side feel. The cool climate complemented the experience, which was of course expected of Baguio. The same was achieved whether is was night time or in broad daylight.

Upon entry to the lobby, you are immediately welcomed to the front reception with a lounge on the left and the main restaurant – Tradisyon – on the right.

Two sets of elevators are conveniently located deeper into the center of the lobby.

Although it was almost midnight, there was no hassle checking-in. A friendly hotel staff ushered us to our room at the 5th floor which was reserved ahead of time.

The corridors are well-lit and clean. The floors also had an overlooking foray to the ground floor’s lobby.

The over-all design and impression was classic with a mix of contemporary twists which reminded me of the Pacific Sutera Hotel in my Kota Kinabalu Malaysia trip last year.

The doors are equipped with electronic access points and uses an infra-red (IR) based security system.

Look who’s excited to see our room! 🙂

Our weekend home for this summer staycation was a one-bedroom suite complete with kitchen, dining area, living room and a balcony overseeing a landscape with some good ‘ol pine trees iconic to the city of Baguio.

Since there are three of us, the living room’s sofa was turned into a bed for my little girl, Bianca. She even has her own LCD TV with cable channels.

The husband and I enjoyed the comfort of a queen-seized bed. We got our own LCD TV with cable channel inside the room. Tired from the long trip, I grabbed the soft pillows and felt the bed.

Generally, I love the interiors for its modern design and color palettes mix – simple but contemporary.

Premium Azalea toiletries complete with toothbrushes, a vanity kit, bedroom slippers and bathrobes were all provided by the hotel.

The bathroom and shower area were conveniently located on the right side upon entering the bedroom.

But more importantly, I was smitten when I saw the toiletries. It was beyond my expectation. The towels and bathrobe smells good, too. There was no bath tub but the hot and cold shower system works well and I didn’t have to wait long before the water heats up.

Bianca was so excited to lie on her bed as well. She immediately turned-on the television and felt at-home right there and then.

By this time, I’m assured she’s not missing her mom and family back in Manila. It was a good indicator that she’s enjoying the place and that my fear of her possible separation anxiety is taken cared of.

It was almost midnight when we arrived so we missed the weekly Mongolian dinner buffet held every Friday at Tradisyon (tradition), the hotel’s restaurant. We called-in for the room service and it’s good that we can still place an order for a late night dinner.

We ordered a hot serving of Pork Sinigang at Php 225 (pork in tamarind soup), Marinated Norwegian Salmon in Basil Pesto (Php 250) and fresh fruit juices at the comfort of our room.

We were surprised of the big servings which was too much for the three of us.

It was almost midnight and hubby didn’t want to eat too much late at night so we had to set aside the excess.

It wasn’t a big deal though since our one-bedroom suite was fully-furnished which included a refrigerator and electric cook-tops with range hood, microwave oven, and cookwares, which meant I can re-heat and still eat them the next day.

Buffet Breakfast @ Tradisyon

After a good night’s rest, we woke up quite early in eager anticipation of our day 1 tour around Baguio City.

Here’s my view the next morning at about 7am.

I woke up rushing to the balcony to catch the morning glory of a sunrise. I love taking photos of the beautiful morning sunlight and seeming frost on the window pane.

We then remembered that breakfast will be served from 6 to 10am at the hotel’s restaurant at the ground floor – Tradisyon, a Filipino restaurant.

It was a hearty breakfast and I’m happy with my cup of hot tsokolate (hot chocolate) and coffee, a few pieces of danggit, dried espada (a fish), vegetable omelet, and pancake. I took particular interest in their hot tsokolate and I could say I am able to finish two cups of it easily.

After breakfast, Bianca requested to play at the hotels’ playground, to which we gave in. Ashton and Ron’s three little boys joined us as well.
