Fight Against Malnutrition with ‘Love Food Give Good’

Advocacy group Action Against Hunger continues the fight against malnutrition with this year’s campaign called “Love Food Give Food“! It encourages restaurateurs and the public to help reach more children with lifesaving treatments while developing long-term solutions to stop one of the global health-concerns in children – malnutrition.

According to the latest survey conducted by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology, an estimated 33.4% or 4 million Filipino children under 5 years old are malnourished. With this in mind, AAH came up with two campaigns – the Love Food Give Good previously known as Restaurants Against Hunger and the Php 100 for 5 Challenge!

Unlike previous years, Love Food Give Food is not limited to restaurants. AAH hopes to get support of all types of food establishments, food kiosks, bakeries, cafes, carinderias and even home-based online food vendors are welcome to join the advocacy. Participants just need to choose from 1-2 or more special items from their product list identified as “Charity Dishes” from October 1 to December 1, 2019, a portion of the sale will be donated to AAH’s projects.

How about shaved iced dessert after a filling meal? We recently tried the newest dessert shop in town –  the Shari-Shari Kakigori in Serendra. Originating from Japan, the store offers shaved ice dessert in different variants and flavors.

Let us share with you brief words and in photos, the five flavors that we recently tried. Starting with the newest seasonal offering and our favorite –  the Sakura with Matcha Cream (P380). It is made with finely shaved ice coated with lightly sweet Sakura sauce, matcha (center), and crushed cookies inside.

Next, we had the Strawberry Special obviously made with strawberry syrup with cream on top.

If you’re a fan of milk tea then go for Shari-Shari‘s Earl Grey Milk Tea variant. It has an elegant flavor and the wonderful aroma of the bergamot orange. We kind-of hoped to find some ‘pearls’ / ‘bobas’ inside. 🙂

We also had a serving of mango-flavored shaved ice dessert – Mango Lassi . For our foreigner friends  Mango is the Philippines’ national fruit.

Last but not the least, is the Japanese Tofu & Mikan Orange which is quite unique among all the variants. It’s creamy and also refreshing because of the latter.

Shari-Shari Kakigori shaved iced dessert is regularly available in a huge serving, which is definitely good for sharing! The alternative  smaller Take-Out Cup size is however, exclusive for take-out . They are open daily from 1pm until 10/11pm.
