Southern Escape @ Somerset Alabang Manila (Part I)
We spent the recent long-weekend holiday at a newly-opened hotel and serviced-residence down south – the Somerset Alabang Manila.
Newest Hotel in the South
For our long-time readers, it’s not a secret that we live at the northern part of Metro Manila, which means we seldom go south to the areas of Alabang. Las Pinas, and Paranaque.
So when we heard about the newest hotel of Somerset in Alabang, we carefully scheduled it and set it on a long-weekend of the local National Heroes Day so we can spend more time in the area.
Somerset itself is not an unfamiliar brand for Seats For Two as we have stayed in Somerset Olympia in Makati earlier this year.
Hence, we were excited on how Somerset Alabang Manila would be different being a new hotel.
Somerset Alabang is situated in the business district of Filinvest City, Alabang.
Albeit surrounded with office buidling, call centers, the Filinvest Tent, and shopping centers just across the hotel, the area is still sprawling with greeneries and open spaces.
Upon going down the hotel and checking out the grounds, you can immediately visit an open park across the street and enjoy brisk walking and jogging.
It’s indeed a city staycation that doesn’t feel like a “city” staycation after all.
Inside Somerset Alabang Manila Hotel
Upon stepping into the hotel lobby, we were immediately greeted by an intriguing, and seemingly abstract, wall sculpture intricately designed and made of silk. On the left side is a lounge and library (top photo) where guests and their visitors can relax.
We later on learned that it’s called “Kissing Dragon“. Go figure. 🙂
The 20-storey hotel houses 150 rooms for both business and leisure travelers. All rooms are fully-equipped with furniture, modern appliances, kitchenware, microwave-oven-toaster-in-1, and even a washing machine!
They are classified into the following sizes:
- Studio Premier
- One Bedroom Unit
- Two-Bedroom Unit
- Three-Bedroom Unit
Peek into Our One-Bedroom Unit
Our one-bedroom corner unit was located at the 10th floor facing one of Filinvest’s green park. Just like other Ascott Hotels, our room in Somerset Alabang Manila had a generous space featuring a separate living room, kitchen, four-seater dining table, bathroom and toilet with bathtub, and a king-sized bed.
We love furnished rooms because it already feels like home. And the hotel had everything we needed for a long weekend staycation. The kitchen is fully equipped with a cooker hob & hood, an electric kettle, a toaster, glassware, crockery, cutlery & utensils, and of course, the refrigerator.
We loved the Electrolux microwave-and-oven-in-one. However, wifey didn’t cook anymore since we were very satisfied with the restaurant dishes at Cafe Madrigal (more on the resturant in our “part 2”).
Lastly, for some quick laundry needs, every unit even had a fully-automatic, front-load washing machine!
Aside from the bedroom, we specially loved the living room with a huge 55″ LCD TV and a sofa that’s very Seats For Two! The bedroom had another TV set too.
The soft & fluffy pillows and the king-sized mattress provided a much needed good night sleep for workaholics like us. We woke up a bit late than the usual, actually. 🙂
The quaint working desk with lamp in the bedroom was a functional corner for us as well. We were able to do some work and blogging from time to time.
The toilet and bath was huge. Mrs. Uy brought some bath fizzer and enjoyed a warm bubble bath every night.
Hotel Amenities
We were invited to tour the hotel and saw the amenities including their Business Center and Serviced Offices at the 2nd floor.
Moreover on the 5th floor, there were about eight (8) meeting rooms and a number of big and small function rooms for big events and special occasions. One of the function rooms was overlooking the swimming pool at the 4th. 🙂
The 4th floor is the busiest floor, we think. 🙂 Mainly because it houses the Cafe Madrigal & Bar restaurant and the swimming pool, among others.
The length-wise pool is good for a lap swim matched by a number of jacuzzi pools which can serve as kiddie pools as well. Although we hope for stronger jacuzzi bubblers, we were excited to know that they’ll be having “hot” jacuzzis in the near future. Seats For Two would love that!
The best part in the pool are is it’s scenic view of the Filinvest City’s green cityscape both at daytime or night time.
To add, parents and kids would love Kid’s Center where they could play and watch a movie at the same time. The gym is adjacent to the playroom as well. Aside from the new fitness equipment, the fitness center has an open-air area/lawn where one can enjoy a yoga session.
