Nanyang: Revisiting Our Singaporean Food Adventure
We frequent Nanyang restaurant at their SM Aura Premier branch, but for the first time we dined at Nanyang Greenbelt 5 the other day, and had a simple date.
Traveling and dining are some of the things we love to do. These are the things we missed ever since the pandemic began and so we thought of reminiscing some of our Singaporean food adventure through the good food we ordered at Nanyang.
A number of stores are still closed at Greenbelt 5 in Makati City, but we are glad to find out that Nanyang is open! They had the standard health and safety protocols in place including temperature check, hand sanitizers, and QR codes / log-book for contact tracing purposes.
We started with an iconic Singaporean food – Kaya Toast! Traditional kaya toast consists of two slices with coconut jam and butter. Here at Nanyang, you can have it with pandan or honey filling, which we both tried.
We also paired it with hot serving of Kopi C and their signature iced Coffee Jelly. Customers also have the option to upgrade the order with a soft-boiled egg alongside a hot cup of coffee.
While awaiting for the mains, we also had their Cheesy Chicken Chop Noodle (P238). It’s a chicken cutlet drizzled with cheese; and comes with a hefty serving of asian noodles.
It’s a meal that’s great for afternoon snacks and can be shared by a couple.
And finally, the main fare we were anticipating on the way to Nanyang – Hainanese Chickens Rice!
It’s one of the most famous dish among South East Asian countries like Singapore and Malaysia. At Nanyang, Hainanese Chicken is our go-to meal, and with an affordable price point, at that! You can choose from the traditional ‘steam’ or ‘fried’ chicken. We had both of them..
Each serving came with three sauces, warm chicken broth and fragrant rice.
Up next, Nanyang is also known for their flavorful Laksa – a mildly spicy rich coconut milk soup base with noodles and toppings. Customers have to option of prawns or fish balls as topping. We chose the former.
The diluted base paste had a good balance of taste and texture that we really appreciated. It was a comforting dish reminiscent of our past Malaysia and Singapore travels sans the extreme spiciness.
If you haven’t, visit Nanyang now! They have branches in SM Aura, Greenbelt 5, SM Megamall, Bonifacio High Street, and The Podium. Check out their page for the complete offerings and other branches.
