Cozy Dining Experience at Watami and Modern Shang
A week before Christmas, Jonel and I dined at the newly opened Watami Japanese restaurant and Modern Shang Chinese restaurant in Glorietta 3.
Watami is a casual restaurant offering Japanese cuisine such as sushi, maki rolls, tempura and ramen, just to name a few. You’ve probably visited their other branches, but we recommend the one in Glorietta 3. The zen-inspired restaurant boasts sleek modern interior. Added to that are beautiful wall decor, lighting fixtures and artificial sakura trees.
Compared to other restaurants, these two share a patio and utilizes the storefront in accommodating additional guests without being too crowded.
During our visit, we had the classic – sushi, Watami salad and ramen miso bowl. They offer a la carte and assorted Teishoku (or set meals) and ebi tempura which we will definitely try on our next visit. Perfect for the holidays and good for sharing are Watami’s Sushi Boxes.
Most Japanese restaurant offers sake. Here at Watami, you can choose from a wide array of Japanese wine and cocktails such as Sakura Sangria, Sake High, Izakaya Collins, and Kampai.
Modern Shang (formerly Modern Shanghai) in Glorietta
Right next to Watami is the newly opened Modern Shang. If Watami serves authentic Japanese cuisine, at Modern Shang you will enjoy authentic Shanghai cuisine.
We’ve been to their other branches a couple of times and one of our favorites here is their Xiao Long Bao. Since we had lunch at Watami, we decided to order dim sum, and yes we had xiao long bao. We also ordered steamed xiomai, hakaw shrimp and egg yolk bun.
Modern Shang‘s signature dishes are definitely great for additions to the holiday celebrations.
They also serve Roasted Crispy Pork, Wok-Fried Beef with Broccoli, Birthday Noodles among others. We had one of their special Christmas dishes, the Braised Pork Knuckle. It has mushrooms, oyster, vegetables with delicious thick sauce. Also available is the Braised Pork Belly.
