A Cantonese Feast with Choi Garden @ Winford Hotel Manila
The Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner. It’s one of the most celebrated Chinese tradition, perhaps next to Chinese New Year. So if you’re in search for a place to dine in on that special occasion, there’s a new dining destination that just opened at Winford Hotel in Manila – Choi Garden!
Celebrating with Choi Garden
Seats For Two was invited to celebrate the grand opening of Choi Garden Manila at the 5-star hotel – Winford Hotel Manila – a few weeks ago.
With an aim to make Choi Garden one of the most popular Chinese restaurants serving authentic and delicious Cantonese-styled cuisines in the city, Winford Hotel & Casino made sure the feast matched the expected grandeur.
The occasion was made even more festive with the traditional dragon dance, blessing of the store, and throwing of coins and candies. It was followed by a sumptuous 9-course meal with overflowing tea, wine, and fruit beverages.
Present during the grand launch were Choi Garden Manila President Benito Gaw, former Philippine President and current Mayor Joseph ‘Erap‘ Estrada, and other VIPs and socialites.
We had a fine-dining, Chinese lauriat-style dinner, care of an experienced Hong Kong chef – Chef Kit.
The feast started with tasty Suckling Pig w/Glutinous Rice. The skin was perfectly crunchy while the meat – tender and juicy.
The XO Sauce Shrimp with Celery was good with a hint of spiciness. We also enjoyed a serving of the mouth-watering Whole Dried Scallop Ring.
There were also seasonal specialties such as the Australian Abalone with Mushroom, the steamed suahe, calmex abalone, and steam rock lobster with garlic. Chef Kit mentioned that they order them in advance from Hong Kong markets.
Our favorites were the soft and tasty Steamed Lapu-Lapu and Spicy Singapore-Style Crab with 4-pcs. HongKong Style Pao.
For dessert, we were served a set of Snowball and Avocado Sago. I highly recommend the snowball as it has a delicious mango and cream filling.
“We have secret recipes that set every dish apart from other Cantonese-styled restaurants,” said Chef Kit. “Rest assured, the food here in Choi Garden Manila will remain faithful to the standard and quality of that in our Greenhills and Makati outlets.” assured Gaw.
Choi Garden Manila has a seating capacity of 300 on the 2nd floor alone. Add to that 8 private rooms, a presidential room, and a ballroom that can accommodate up to 700 guests.
