Tonkatsu by Terazawa: Spanish Iberico Pork Katsu
After an awesome shopping experience at the first ever Zalora Pop-up store in Glorietta, we visited Tonkatsu by Terazawa located at Greenbelt 2 (just beside Italiannis) for some deep fried Oyster katsu and Frozen Green Tea! We also heard about the new Spanish Iberico Pork Katsu, made of world’s finest pork.
Tonkatsu by Terazawa is the brainchild of Japanese chef and restaurateur Akinori Terazawa who promised to make Tonkatsu like no other when he opened his first restaurant in Japan.
Seats For Two dine in the restaurant several times since its opening August of last year.
Spanish Iberico Pork Katsu
Popularly known as “Pata Negra”, these Iberian pigs are a special breed found in the South and Southwest areas of Spain. They are indigenous, free-roaming living link to the European wild boar. They are fed on barley and maize weeks after weaning then allowed to forage on forest floors eating acorns, thyme, rosemary and mushrooms. Because of the hog’s diet, they are considered “healthiest pigs with 50% unsaturated fats like that of olive oil.”
While waiting for the food, I asked the friendly staff how they prepare Spanish Iberico katsu. Here’s the info: Premium pork is aged for three days, then coated with “nama panko” fresh bread crumbs and then deep fried to perfection for that tender and rich flavor.
We had a set meal comprises of refillable shredded cabbage, tonjiru (miso soup with pork) and choice of Japanse or brown rice. The tonkatsu was good, meat is tender and juicy and because it has 50% unsaturated fats, we finished the entire serving without guilt.
I also had my all-time favorite oyster katsu (a la carte)
Capping our de-lite-ful meal was our favorite dessert, Frozen Green Tea.
Tonkatsu by Terazawa is located at: Greenbelt 2, Lucky China Town, Solenad 1 Nuvali, Ayala Center Cebu and soon to open Ayala Centrio Mall Cagayan de Oro.
